MINDFULNESS BASED YOGA THERAPY PROGRAM
FOR
STRESS AND STRESS-RELATED HEALTH PROBLEMS
Wednesdays, July 30 - September 17, 2008 from 6:15pm to 8:45 pm with one all day session on a weekend day to be arranged.
This 8-week program incorporates Mindfulness Meditation and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy to encourage healing from the inside, thus restoring health. All sessions are at Yoga in the Valley, located at Mile 3.5 Palmer Fishhook Road. (upstairs in the log colony structure behind the light blue Victorian farm house)
WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?
- Anyone with stress in their lives who is looking for new ways to manage it.
- Anyone diagnosed with or believed to be suffering form a stress related health disorder (including irritable bowel syndrome, heart disease, cancer, asthma, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, fibromyalgia)
WHY?
Research suggests that chronic stress and/or lifestyle choices have a significant impact on both the cause of and recovery from many health disorders. Yoga and mindfulness meditation may prove extremely helpful. In our initial program with patients with irritable bowel syndrome, completed in May 2003, there was an overall improvement of symptoms by 55%.
WHO IS THE FACILITATOR?
Tammy R. Moser, RYT facilitates this class. Tammy has been teaching yoga in the Mat-Su Valley for the past 16 years. Certified in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, she has over 5,000 hours experience teaching Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation. She has conducted healing retreats in Alaska and Hawaii. Tammy has also taught Yoga and Relaxation to over 240 teachers at school district in-services. She has twice been a guest presenter at the Seward Wellness conference for teachers.
WHAT FORMAT WILL THE PROGRAM TAKE?
We will meet for 2 1/2 hours per week for eight weeks and have one full day from 9am-5pm .
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN EACH OF THE EIGHT WEEK SESSIONS?
You will be part of a group who will be taking this program lead by Tammy Moser. The first meeting will inform you more fully about the entire program and what will be involved. A large part of each meeting will be spent in the practice of gentle Yoga stretches and Mindfulness Meditation but with a focus geared specifically to your needs using the unique Phoenix Rising client –centered approach.
I’VE NEVER DONE YOGA BEFORE AND I’M NOT VERY FLEXIBLE, WILL THAT BE A PROBLEM?
No! With careful guidance and breathing, you are safely brought to your edge of physical sensation, the “just right” amount of stretch for you, not too much - not too little. It is expected that everyone in the group will have their own unique limitations and this is perfectly acceptable.
WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF THE SESSIONS?
Most clients report receiving:
• Physical relief from chronic aches and pains
• A feeling of deep relaxation
• Greater emotional awareness
• Enhanced mental clarity and a sense of empowerment
• Clearer focus and sense of perspective
• Greater body awareness and feeling good in your body
• Easier and deeper breathing
• Ability to identify, work with, and release tension and stressWHAT DO I WEAR?
Wear loose, comfortable clothes. Pants without zippers are better.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
Just yourself and a willingness to explore something new and different –an open mind.
